Marshall's career began in the earliest days of digital marketing - as one of two full-time SEO specialists at USWeb, then the largest interactive agency in the U.S. Over the next 15 years, he built and led digital programs at Omnicom and Interpublic Group agencies for Fortune 100 clients including Microsoft, BMW, Chrysler, Intel, Bank of America, and Johnson & Johnson. At IPG, he managed a $100M Microsoft marketing budget with direct P&L responsibility and developed the first quantitative measurement of brand impact from media activity for Microsoft - an industry first. He also led key M&A efforts at Nielsen, contributing to their successful $200M acquisition of data management platform eXelate.
As CrowdStreet's first marketing hire, Marshall designed and built the data, software, marketing, and sales infrastructure that powered the platform's transformation from startup to market leader. The investor recruitment system he created drove CrowdStreet's fastest growth period and laid the foundation for what would become over $5 billion in capital placed. During this period, he also conceived and edited The Comprehensive Guide to Commercial Real Estate Investing - the platform's cornerstone educational resource for HNW investors.
At Cadre, an Andreessen Horowitz-backed asset management firm in New York, Marshall proved the CrowdStreet playbook wasn't a one-time result. He founded the firm's marketing function, built their B2C growth engine for HNW investor recruitment, and helped scale their first Opportunity Zone fund to $200 million in invested assets - delivering 10x annual growth in individual capital allocations. He also scaled the Investments/Sales Management team from 2 to 15+ people and laid the foundation for the firm's Wholesale/RIA distribution channel.
The pattern across CrowdStreet and Cadre was clear: the firms that win HNW capital don't do better marketing - they build better systems for earning trust at scale.
